Major General John F. Wharton United States Army (Ret.)
John F. Wharton is a retired U.S. Army Major General with over three decades of leadership experience at the highest levels of military logistics, sustainment, and global operations. His career was defined by commanding and modernizing the systems that enable the U.S. military to project power, sustain forces in contested environments, and operate across complex, multi-domain theaters.
Most recently, he served as Commanding General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he led a global organization responsible for critical infrastructure development, engineering operations, and large-scale project execution in support of national security objectives. In this role, he oversaw billions of dollars in infrastructure programs, including military construction, civil works, and expeditionary engineering missions, while working closely with interagency, allied, and private-sector partners.
Prior to this assignment, Major General Wharton served as Commanding General of the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, where he was responsible for the Army’s global logistics enterprise. He directed sustainment operations across all geographic combatant commands, managing the materiel readiness, supply chains, and operational support that underpin deployed forces worldwide. His leadership encompassed the integration of industrial base capabilities, prepositioned stocks, and forward logistics in both peacetime and contingency operations.
Throughout his career, Major General Wharton held a series of senior command and staff positions across the Army’s logistics and engineering communities, including leadership roles within the U.S. Army Materiel Command and operational assignments supporting large-scale deployments.
